“Wall drawings” es el nombre de la exposición de arte urbano que presenta actualmente el Museo de Arte contemporáneo de Lyon.
“Wall drawings” is the name of the urban art exhibition currently presented in the Contemporary Art Museum in Lyon.
Para crear la exposición, dos artistas franceses (Julien Malland y Hervé Perdriolle) invitaron a artistas originarios de diferentes paÃses – entre ellos varios latinoaméricanos - para que crearan un mural inédito dentro del museo, al igual que una segunda obra en algún lugar de la ciudad de Lyon.
La exposición está acompañada de un programa muy interesante de sensibilización para el público. Para empezar, era posible asistir al proceso de creación de los murales y conocer a los artistas. Además, a lo largo del perÃodo de la exposición se están organizando talleres para niños y para adultos, sobre las técnicas y los temas presentes. También, me parece interesante que exista la voluntad de ir hacia el público fuera del museo - instalando obras en espacios públicos - y la de exponer a los visitantes del museo a obras generalmente ignoradas en los espacios institucionales. Con unos amigos discutÃamos justamente sobre cómo exposiciones como esta, por un lado, dan legitimidad a estos artistas pero también hacen que las personas que generalmente prestan poca atención al arte callejero lo vean con nuevos ojos.
Durante la visita, nos divertimos mucho tratando de adivinar el origen de cada artista, basándonos en el tema y el estilo de cada mural. Y la visita fue el reflejo de la exposición: sencilla y agradable.
To create the exhibition, two French artists (Julien Malland and Herv̩ Perdriolle) invited artists from different countries Рamong them many Latin-American Рto create an original wall painting inside of the museum, as well as a second artwork to be located somewhere in the city of Lyon.
The exhibition is accompanied with an interesting outreach program for the public. For starters, it was possible to come visit during the murals’ painting process and meet the artists. In addition, during the exhibition there are workshops organized for children and adults on the techniques and subjects shown. I also find interesting that there is a motivation to reach people outside of the museum – by placing works in public spaces – and exposing visitors in the museum to works normally ignored by institutional spaces. We were discussing with some friends that exhibitions like this one not only legitimize these artists but also make people who normally do not give too much attention to street art see it differently.
During the visit, we had a lot of fun trying to guess each artist origin based on the mural’s subject and style. And the visit was just like the exhibition: nice and simple.
