Locronan

Locronan es un pueblito del departamento de Finistère en la región de Bretagne, que visité, como dije antes, gracias a que fue votado el segundo pueblo más hermoso de Francia según un programa de televisión. Si este es apenas el segundo, no me quiero imaginar el primero porque Locronan es realmente hermoso. Lo mismo han pensado Roman Polanski que filmó “Tess” allí, así como Jean-Pierre Jeunet que usó el pueblo, con sus construcciones de entre los siglos XV al XVIII, como escenario para “A very long engagement”.

La catedral es la iglesia Saint-Ronan, del nombre del obispo irlandés que se instaló en el bosque del Névet a cercanías del pueblo en el siglo VII. Este santo fue quien inició la cristianización de la región, que tenía profunda influencia celta. Sin embargo, esta influencia todavía persiste en las ceremonias del Perdón, que son peregrinaciones. En Locronan se celebra el Perdón llamado la gran “Troménie”, de doce kilómetros, cada seis años y este va a celebrarse este próximo 14 de julio. Los otros años se lleva a cabo la pequeña “Troménie” de seis kilómetros.

El pueblo tiene otra iglesia, más pequeña y aislada llamada la iglesia de Notre Dame de Bonne Nouvelle.

Locronan is a little village located in the Finistère department in the Bretagne region. I visited, as I said before, thanks to the fact that it was voted the second most beautiful village in France according to a TV show. If this is just the second on the list I can’t even imagine the first one, for Locronan is really gorgeous. The same has been thought by Roman Polanski who filmed “Tess” here, as well as Jean-Pierre Jeunet who used the town, with its XVth to XVIIIth century architecture, as the setting for “A very long engagement”.

The cathedral is the Saint-Ronan church, named after the Irish bishop who came to live in the Névet woods, near the village, in the VIIth century. This saint was responsible for the beginnings of Christianity in the region, which had a deep Celtic influence. However, this influence still persists in the Pardon ceremonies, which are peregrinations. In Locronan there’s the Pardon called the great “Troménie”, 12 km long, every six years. This will be held on July 14^th this year. The remaining years there’s the little “Troménie”, 6 km long.

The town has another church; smaller and isolated called the Notre Dame de Bonne Nouvelle church.

For the excellent quality of the pictures I have to thank Jacques, who not only has a good eye but he also got some help from his camera. This proves that carrying this 2 kg machine during each trip is really worth it.
