Una de las cosas buenas de vivir en Ginebra es que el aeropuerto es súper accesible. Está en una de las comunas periféricas pero siempre dentro de la aglomeración de la ciudad, por lo que hay varias líneas de buses que te llevan allá. Hay incluso un tren que te lleva desde la estación de tren en menos de 8 minutos, con el mismo boleto del transporte público que cuesta 3 francos por una hora. Y cuando uno llega de regreso en avión te regalan un boleto. Los buses y el tren son súper frecuentes, incluso durante el fin de semana y días feriados.
El aeropuerto de Lyon es todo lo contrario. Sólo se puede llegar por medio de una línea privada de tren. El viaje dura media hora y los trenes salen cada 15 o 30 minutos, según la hora del día, o si es día de semana o fin de semana. Y cuesta 25 euros ida y vuelta. Sobra decir que si me toca escoger, prefiero sin dudar el aeropuerto de Ginebra. Excepto por un punto: en Lyon el tren llega a una estación diseñada por Calatrava.
One of the good things of living in Geneva is that the airport is super accessible. It’s in one of the peripheral communes, but still inside of the city’s agglomeration, so there are a lot of bus lines that take you there. There is even a train which takes you from the train station to the airport in less than 8 minutes, with the same ticket of the public transportation that costs 3 francs. And when you come back by plane they give you a ticket free of charge. Train and buses are very frequent, even during the weekends and holidays.
The airport in Lyon is the total opposite. You can only reach it by a private train line. The trip lasts half an hour and trains leave every 15 or 30 minutes, depending on the hour of the day or if it’s a weekday or weekend. And it costs 25 euros round way. Suffice to say, if I have to choose, I prefer the Geneva airport without hesitation. Except for one thing: in Lyon the train arrives at a station designed by Calatrava.
Hay que saber que durante mis años de estudiante de arquitectura tenía dos fotos en mi billetera, la de mi novio en aquella época y otra del museo de arte de Milwaukee. Así que las dos o tres veces que he ido al aeropuerto de Lyon han sido de algunos momentos éxtasis, seguidos de estrés y de furia porque el resto del aeropuerto es una puercada.
A pesar que tengo un año y medio de deambular entre Lyon y Ginebra, hasta la semana pasada tuve algo de tiempo para tomarle fotos al edificio. Me encanta. Me muero por ver más edificios de este arquitecto. Tal vez sea esa la única razón por la que vaya a Milwaukee algún día.
It must be said that during my years as an architecture student I carried two photos in my wallet, one of my boyfriend at the time and another of the Milwaukee Art Museum. So the two or three times I’ve been to the airport in Lyon I’ve experienced a few minutes of ecstasy, followed by stress and rage because the rest of the airport is pure crap.
So even though I’ve been parading between Lyon and Geneva for the last year and a half, it wasn’t until last week that I had a few minutes to take pictures of the building. I love it. I’m dying to see more buildings by this architect. It may be the only reason why I may go to Milwaukee one day.
