Ahora que ya vimos el Jardín Botánico de Bordeaux, veamos el de Ginebra. Bueno, por lo menos esa fue la actitud con la que fui la semana pasada. El lugar es gigantesco y se ve más tradicional que el de Bordeaux, con unos invernaderos que harían muy feliz a Joseph Paxton. Por cierto, les doy permiso de juzgarme todo lo que quieran, pero fue hasta la semana pasada que me enteré que era un jardinero.
Now that we’ve seen the Bordeaux’s Botanical Garden, let’s see the one in Geneva. Well, at least that was the attitude I had when I went last week. The place is huge and it looks more traditional than the one in Bordeaux, with some greenhouses that would have made Joseph Paxton very happy. By the way, I give you permission to judge me as much as you want, for it was just last week that I learned that he was a gardener.
El evento importante en este momento en el jardín es una exposición sobre las palmeras que están distribuidas por todo el complejo. Como buena caribeña, estaba muy feliz por eso. Y en los invernaderos fue increíble cómo se sentía el cambio de clima: estaba tan húmedo que el lente de la cámara no dejaba de empañarse.
Me gustó mucho cómo presentaban las plantas tropicales junto con sus productos derivados. Nosotros los indiferentes a la naturaleza necesitamos toda la ayuda que nos puedan proporcionar. Y los jardines al aire libre te hacen sentir que estás completamente alejado de la ciudad. Pero no es así, de hecho, el jardín está partido por una calle (hay un pasaje subterráneo para atravesarla), del otro lado está el lago y si se continúa caminando se llega al centro de la ciudad, casi sin darse cuenta. Puedo decirlo porque así fue como nos fuimos del jardín sin terminar de conocerlo. Pero esto quiere decir que tendré que volver en algún momento.
The most important event right now at the garden is an exhibit on palm trees that are scattered all around. As any good girl from the Caribbean would be, I am very happy about that. And inside of the greenhouses it was amazing to feel the change in the climate: it was so humid that the lens in my camera kept getting foggy.
I really liked the way they presented tropical trees next to their derived products. We people indifferent to Nature need all the help they can give us. And the outside gardens make you feel like you’re somewhere very far away from the city. However it is not the case, in fact, there is a street that divides the garden (there is a subterranean passage to cross it), on the other side there is the lake and if you keep walking you’ll end up in the city center, almost without realizing it. I can attest that because that’s how we ended up leaving the garden without visiting it in its entirety. But this means that I’ll have to come back at some point.
