Después de mucha planificación y anticipación, finalmente Pame y yo pudimos ir a visitar a Esther a su Alemania natal. Nuestra primera parada, en esta aventura que duró casi diez días, fue Colonia, a dos horas en tren de donde vive nuestra amiga. En Colonia visitamos la catedral, lo único que quedó en pie después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Allí me encantaron los vitrales del artista contemporáneo alemán Gerhard Richter, que tienen unos cuadritos de colores que desgraciadamente no se fotografían bien con mi cámara low-cost. Caminamos un poco por la ciudad y fuimos a tomar un vaso de kölsch, la cerveza rubia tradicional de la ciudad, servida únicamente en vasos de 25 ml. El tiempo no nos dio para más: teníamos que tomar un tren en dirección a Münster.
After much planning and anticipation, Pame and I finally managed to visit Esther in her native Germany. Our first stop, in this adventure that lasted almost ten days, was Cologne, two hours by train from where our friend lives. In Cologne we visited the cathedral, the only thing that was left standing after World War II. I loved its stained glass windows, by German contemporary artist Gerhard Richter, that feature little colored squares that unfortunately don’t photograph well with my low-cost camera. We walked a little through the city and had a glass of kölsch, the city’s traditional blond beer, served only in 25 ml glasses. We didn’t have time for more: we had to take a train to Münster.
