“La Pointe du Raz” es el punto más al oeste de Francia, por lo que lo llaman el borde del mundo, naturalmente. Es un lugar excepcional pero inhóspito, donde supuestamente el tormentoso clima es digno de una película apocalíptica, excepto cuando fuimos. Tal vez habrá sido lo inusual de recibir a una hondureña que hizo que el sol hiciera acto de aparición ese día.
“La Pointe du Raz” is France’s westernmost point, which is why is called the edge of the world, naturally. It is an exceptional place but an inhospitable one where supposedly the stormy weather is worthy of an apocalyptical movie, except when we were there. Maybe it was the unusual visit of a Honduran that made the sun appear that day.
El paisaje se va transformando de un campo apacible donde a lo lejos se ven las casitas del pueblo, hasta irse desolando, dejando atrás el último camino marcado por el Hombre y dando paso a montañas empinadas de rocas sueltas, donde el riesgo de tropezar y caer el mar siempre está presente, pero donde la vista sublime vale cualquier riesgo.
The landscape changes from a calm field where you can see in the distance the little townhouses; it then becomes desolate, leaving behind the last trail made by Man and giving way to steep loose rock mountains where the risk of tripping and falling into the sea is ever-present, but the sublime view is worth any risk.
Sentada sobre esas piedras, sin nadie a mi alrededor y mirando las olas, debería de haber tenido la mente en silencio, con la agitación interna en reposo de una vez por todas. Sólo recuerdo que me hice las mismas promesas que tenía meses de repetir y que no pude cumplir al final.
Sitting on those stones, with no one around me and staring at the waves, I should have had my mind in silence, with the internal turmoil at rest once and for all. I just remember making myself the promises I’ve been repeating for the last months, which I couldn’t keep in the end.
