Sooner or later I was going to go to a horology museum in Switzerland, it was inevitable. There is one in Geneva that I want to visit, but it’ll be as soon as I finish with the free ones. On Saturday I visited the International museum of horology in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, which for the common of the mortals is one of the most important centers of this industry in the country. For architects is where Le Corbusier was born. But first, let’s watch some watches.

Now that we’ve seen the Bordeaux’s Botanical Garden, let’s see the one in Geneva. Well, at least that was the attitude I had when I went last week. The place is huge and it looks more traditional than the one in Bordeaux, with some greenhouses that would have made Joseph Paxton very happy. By the way, I give you permission to judge me as much as you want, for it was just last week that I learned that he was a gardener.

Last Sunday I went to Geneva’s botanical garden with my friend Anca. We wandered through it for a while before taking a detour in order to find a plastic bottle. That is another story, but it made me realize I hadn’t yet published the pictures from Bordeaux’s botanical garden, which is a sacrilege considering it is one of La Bastide’s most important projects and with reason: it is spectacular. This, coming from someone who hasn’t got the slightest interest in plants.

The main reason of our visit to Montreux was to discover the Chillon castle, a medieval castle built on top of a giant rock in the borders of the Leman Lake. Not only is the castle in excellent shape, from the structure to the interior decorations, but also the museography is so good that to walk through it constitutes a true and pleasant introduction to castelology.

Montreux

One of the perks of being a foreign student is that there are associations that organize trips, parties or meetings in order to meet other people or to travel. In Bordeaux it was Babaoc, in which a French student became the “godfather” of a foreign one. In Geneva is the Erasmus Student Network, the ESN, who has sections all across Europe. They have a lot of activities planned for this year and the first one was a trip to Montreux and to the Chillon castle.
