CERN

Today my neighbor and I went to the Museum of Art and History of Geneva, one of the most important in the city. Like it could be expected, it is big, it houses a lot of interesting pieces and it is therefore a mandatory visit. However, it has a big inconvenient…

Geneva is beautiful, but let’s leave it for awhile and go back to Bordeaux. I haven’t shown yet all of the buildings of La Bastide neighborhood and it is my moral duty to do so, since I spent a whole year studying it. I will start by showing the Niel barracks, an ensemble from the XIXth century that belonged originally to the Army but was later on appropriated by the local community.

Strolling around Geneva

The first time I came to France I saw everything through the Honduran filter: the prices, the customs, the food… But now that I’m in Switzerland, France has become the reference. I haven’t been here that long so that is why I found turned to books to facilitate the transition. I rented “The image of Switzerland”, which brings together all of the clichés and the things that make Switzerland known throughout the world.

Leman Lake

Before posting the pictures I’ve taken of Geneva (of which there are just too many!), I thought it would be a good idea to start by the nucleus of the city: the Leman lake. The university’s International relations office invited the scholarship holders and the Erasmus students to a boat trip on the lake. It was an excellent opportunity to take a glimpse of the areas in the city you have to visit in order to find a rich banker or a celebrity.

Now that the anguish, the euphoria and the jet lag have passed, I can finally sit down and write. I have been for two weeks now in Geneva, the city where I’ll be living for the next three years to study my PhD in Art history. Today I was leaving the town’s library, located in a wing of a building occupied by the university which is in a big park in the city’s center and I was so happy to be here.

Only Lyon

Before reaching my final destination, I took a detour to Lyon to say hello to familiar faces, thus making easier the transition of completely changing of environment. I wonder now if this was a good idea: Lyon is a big city, like one of those big cities where I’ve always wanted to live. For starters, it has a subway. And it’s somewhere where there is a lot of things to do and many places to visit. But, will this be enough to fall in love with it the way it happened with Bordeaux?
