When I came back from Taiwan I had this urge to try to recreate the delicious Bubble tea I’ve came to love during my vacations. I spent a whole afternoon looking for recipes on the internet so I could prepare it at home. Jumping from link to link I came to this cooking blog in which three sisters share their favorite recipes and restaurants, with lovely drawings that inspire even the laziest person in the world –me-, to try to cook something.

I kept on reading their blog and a few weeks ago I learned that they published their first book called “Recipes from the three sisters for broke and sweet-toothed young people”. Is there a better description of this glorious time that is student life? And if we take into account the fact that the book comes heavily illustrated, I think this book is going to replace our previous one: “Mom’s recipes for students and other bachelors”.

Financially it was not a good idea to get the book before going to the supermarket. There are so many recipes to do that we spent a lot of money because I want to make them all at once. The first one on my list: the anti-diet quiche.

I loved that they have their own recipe for the dough, something you can buy for 75 cents on the supermarket, but you cannot spice the way you want or has the same amount of love invested in it.

In order to prepare it you need: 200 g of flour (or two and a half yogurt cups. I love this weight measure!), 100 g of butter, a teaspoon of garlic powder, a teaspoon of rosemary, half a teaspoon of salt and five tablespoons of water.

Here is where the particular conditions of our student life come into play. For starters, I don’t have any garlic powder because I don’t think it can replace real garlic, so I put two smashed cloves. I didn’t have enough butter as well, so I used what we had left on our house and I have no idea how much it was. To make it even worse I put much more water than the recipe stated, but everyone knows that cooking is more instinct than following instructions, right? (Says to herself the person who doesn’t have any culinary instincts because she doesn’t have any experience.)

Mix all the dry ingredients first and then mix with your hands the butter; then add the water.DSC09485Se debe obtener una masa uniforme que debe reposar media hora en la refrigeradora.

The dough must be uniform. Leave it in your fridge for half an hour.DSC09489Luego se coloca la masa en el molde –preparado con mantequilla y harina en la receta original, con aceite de oliva y harina en la vida real- en pequeños bultos que luego se distribuyen uniformemente en el molde.

Put the dough on the pan –prepared with butter and flour according to the recipe, with olive oil and flour in real life- in little lumps that must be distributed on the pan.

To prevent the dough from inflating, sting it with a fork before putting it into a preheat oven for 20 minutes at 180°C.

For the filling you need five eggs (I used only four. Granted, the quiche may be anti-diet, but five it’s too much), bacon, mozzarella, 150 ml of liquid cream, little tomatoes, Provence herbs and nutmeg.

Mix the eggs and spices with the liquid cream.

Fry the bacon and put it on a plate with a napkin to take away the excess fat.

And start adding the ingredients. In the bottom of the quiche put the bacon and on top of it the mozzarella.

I had to allow myself another creative license when I added some of the parmigiano regiano that Eleonora’s sister brought from Italy and that we have to finish this weekend. It’s exquisite.

Here I mistakenly put the tomatoes before the liquid filling. DSC09507Y se coloca en el horno por 40 minutos a 180°C.

And put it in the oven for 40 minutes at 180°C. DSC09510He aquí el resultado final.

Here’s the end result.

Needless to say, it was a huge success and this recipe alone justifies buying the book. I loved the quiche and I’m dying to try the other dishes. DSC09517
